St Johns County Jail Annex - 4025 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, FL, USA
We would love to have you join us at the Thirteenth Annual Commemoration of the largest mass arrest of Rabbis in US History that will take place outdoors at the St. Johns County Jail Annex, 4025 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, Florida 32084 , at 12 noon, Thursday, June 18th. This 45 minute event sponsored by the St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society, is open to the public, is free and all are welcome.
On June 18, 1964, 16 Rabbis and a Reform Jewish administrator, in St. Augustine at the request of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., were arrested and held in the St. Johns County Jail. Overnight, they wrote a letter entitled “Why We Went to St. Augustine” that will be read as part of the commemoration.
“Walkin’ CD-5 is about showing up, listening, and earning trust the old-fashioned way—one conversation at a time,” said campaign manager Robin O'Neil. “This walk reflects Mark’s belief that public service begins with being present in the community, hearing directly from people, and demonstrating the stamina and commitment it takes to represent this district effectively. It is also an important milestone in building the resources we need to compete strongly through the primary and beyond.”
The campaign will release additional event details, public participation opportunities, and media availability in the coming weeks. Supporters, volunteers, and community members will be invited to join portions of the walk, especially the final leg into St. Augustine and the culminating celebration in Lincolnville.
Mark Heggestad is running for Congress to restore trust, make life more affordable, and protect the future our families deserve. Too many people feel unheard and left behind — it’s time for a government that listens again. Mark is committed to rebalancing the Constitution for future generations and building bridges across our community so every family has a fair shot.
